Christmas: its all about the food?

Christmas used to be about as many family members as we could fit into our house when i was growing up! Well, perhaps thats a slight exaggeration but we used to have grandparents and aunts & uncles who all fell asleep the minute they ate dinner. The central focus of the whole day was the food! Lets face it, this is true for most people despite some folks trying to make is believe their focus at Christmas is Jesus. If not food, then presents or something else! This has been our second Christmas as a married couple & we spent the 2 days at home again. We opened presents, I cooked dinner and we watched bad T.V. Even when cooking for just 2 people, it consumes so much of the day but i enjoy it. I do get a bit stressed in that last crucial 15 minutes before the food gets served. It all comes together in that last few minutes! I guess in years to come we will do the "whole family gathering" thing, i think we were so used to it that we needed a break from it in the first couple of years of married life. Our folks all understand & are not yapping at us to wise up which is nice also! Oh and we talked about Jesus a bit by the way. I say that because we are all to aware of what Christmas is about BUT i have to be honest and say i HATE when i see folks overdoing the Jesus references in the run up to Christmas. The folks who like to smack you in the face with it & make you feel guilty for spending money or getting excited about the food? YOu know the sort?
Now i have to find time to watch The King of New York.......

yes, so true. . i don't think its even possible to separate feasting from human experience, holidays, birthdays, celebrations of all sorts. Its special and wonderful. for me its about finding that balance and not tipping too far one way or the other.

Sounds like a great tradition of you and your wife spending a nice quiet Christmas together! Food is definitely in abundance at our family gatherings too , thanks to my N. Irish and Newfoundlander heritage!! I also agree with you about the over indulgence in Jesus reference and for me, the laid on guilt from some friends for still believing in Santa!! hehehe! I thought it was just me who felt that way! All the best in the new year and hopefully your wife can convince you to come to Canada sometime soon!! You won't have to worry about food or accomodation!!:)
