Pop Goes the Church..........

Ok, so this book hasn't landed in the UK yet but i am looking forward to reading it. On the author's blog i just read some very interesting facts about the book industry. Check that out here. Now, heres the thing, there has been some debate about culture & our role in it floating around the blog world recently. Context, does it matter? Well, read Tall Skinny Kiwi's great post here, it is a series of posts and is quite long, but worth reading. The idea that we should engage culture & embrace contextualization is getting a battering from some right now. I agree with Andrew who said in his post 'I believe that the Apostle Paul listened and conversed and looked for the redemptive analogies that would help him convincingly and prophetically shed light on the good news of Christ.' These Folks do not agree, though they tend to slam everything that exists!

Thoughts?

I am 4 chapters deep. I dig it man. lots of thoughts I have had for a while and some things that we actually discuss often at TPC.

There are some terms that is used that I don't dig, but I try to see past them (like the term "unchurched").

I might post some things on it soon.

I haven't even heard of the book yet. The context wars are another story. They make me tired. It's another iteration of who's in and who's out. I think these battles do more damage to the Body than any actual real heresy ever could. They are a cancer which draws energy away from the job which we are supposed to be about (loving God, loving others and carrying out the Great Commission), and puts energy into cell division and creating tumors. It's horrible.

Looking forward to digging into this one. I just received my copy last week and a couple of us are going to go through it together.

Hey Chad, just curious, why don't you like the term unchurched?
