Little Preachers............

The preacher sat in the blue booth, lips pouted, arms crossed. His shirt was covered in Rocky Road ice cream, his shorts in cheese pizza sauce. It was a quarter past 5 on a Saturday. Nearly three hours had passed since Terry Durham arrived at a suburban skating rink, and the 8-year-old didn't want to leave. Yes, you did read that correctly, the preacher and the 8 year old are one and the same person! We are watching a documentary about this kid and two others like him, i am very troubled by this! I have had to see it to actually believe that it is not a hoax, im speechless. It is weird to see a preacher being naughty and get a spanking from his mother whilst on the way to preach at a conference though! On a serious note though this is absolutely awful, these kids are being destroyed by crazy parents with an agenda and God only knows what other mental problems, im disgusted!

I saw this too, I had to sit and shake my head.

It seemed to me that the young black lad had a father that was simply intending to make money from him. I think the words were "I see him as a 1.1 million dollar ministry.."

I'm ever concerned by most 'ministries' making money from a free Gospel. Jesus set out to minister to those in need, exposing the pharisees for pious, greedy, corrupt charlatans.

When I see the likes of Benny Hinn sitting on an opulent gold type throne asking people to send money in, I have to wonder why people are taken in by that.

Making a career out of Jesus' gospel is a concerning, worrying thing - and sadly two large UK churches I can think of are going the American way. I went to one such 'famous' church up North and was sickened to see the hype and nonsense at 'welcoming in the pastor'. We were told to stand and clap this gentleman in. I had to sit and simply shake my head. The person I'm speaking about said, and I quote " We have a large church here, not because of a move of God, but because of a move of us..." I was absolutely baffled.

Later, at the same convention Brian Houston was welcomed to the platform - the same idiotic reference was made to us having to shoop and clap. Houston told everyone immediately to sit down and remind us we weren't there for him, we were there for God. The man was so humble.

The very concerning TV styled evangelists who are making a mint need to remind themselves of Jesus' ministry. Jesus was such a wonderful, compassionate, amazing person who seemed to go out of his way to shun possession, rich trappings and fame. He sat with tax collectors, prostitutes and the shamed Samaritan woman to minsiter peace and love.

Perhaps some of the career Evangelists who are making money off the back of the gospel should remind themselves of our modus operandi as Christians - the great commission. Our focus should be on Him.

Richard of Chichester had the right idea, his story is an amazing testimony to what a Christian really was. His great prayer was right on the button: "To know him more dearly, follow him more nearly and see Him more clearly"

Thank God I belong to a thriving fellowship where compassion and reaching into the community remain the most immediate concerns. It's a pleasure to be in Leadership there: http://christianlifecentre.com
